Steve Wozniak is launching a new online technology training platform, Woz U, designed to increase job opportunities and provide practical skills needed for careers in the tech industry. Over time, Wozniak hopes to expand the initiative to include up to 30 locations worldwide, offering courses in everything from software development and IT to mobile app development and cybersecurity.
Woz U also offers access to tech companies interested in using the tools and resources provided for hiring and training employees. Woz U aims to offer personalized instruction to students and then offer its own program for future startup founders. The overall goal is to increase interest in what Woz U calls STEAM careers, or science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics. Wozniak’s role at Apple and his life alongside co-founder Steve Jobs combined technology and the humanities.
«Our goal is to educate and train people to work from home without putting them in debt,» Wozniak said in a statement. «People are often afraid to choose a technology-based career because they think they can’t do it. I know they can, and I want to show them how. I’ve spent my entire life creating, developing, and building a better world through technology, and I’ve always respected education. Now is the time for Woz U, and we’re just getting started.»
There are no details about any existing or planned features for the platform. There is already a mobile app with some introductory courses, and you can also «sign up» for Woz U starting today.
