Bitcoin, the cryptocurrency, surpassed $7,000 per coin for the first time. Some exchanges even reached a high of $7,200 during the surge. According to CoinDesk, Bitcoin reached a record high of $7,355.35. Price inflation saw the virtual coin rise more than 7 percent that day.
Over the past month, it has gained over $2,000 per coin. Bitcoin hit the $1,000 mark on New Year’s Day this year, leading to speculation that it could surpass its previous record of $1,216.70 (set in 2013) next year. The digital currency’s price has risen 600 percent since the beginning of the year.
