At first, the spectacular glowing sphere of light seen in Siberia on October 27th sparked fears of an alien invasion. But thanks to physicists, we now have a more reasonable explanation.
The sensational light show, visible across much of northern Siberia, was witnessed by countless people, including photographers who tried to capture the spectacle as vividly as possible.
One of them was leading Siberian photographer Sergei Anisimov, who lives in Salekhard, located above the Arctic Circle.

«I was a little confused, not understanding what was happening. A ball of light rose from behind the trees and moved toward me. My first thought was that it was a hidden, powerful spotlight, but the speed of change in everything around me changed my perception of what was happening. The sphere began to arc and gradually dissipate,» says Sergey.
After the strange apocalypse ended, the photographer returned home, where the children who had also witnessed it told him about a «portal to another dimension» and «aliens.»

Some called the glow a «hole in the space-time continuum.» Others said it was an unusual form of the northern lights.
Such fears are understandable, given this unusual «spectacle.» But we have to disappoint you: aliens were not involved in this event either, and the space-time continuum is perfectly fine.
Instead, the glowing ball was an unusual consequence of the recent launch of powerful ballistic missiles. According to an update from the Russian Ministry of Defense, the largest missile was launched from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome and hit a target in Kamchatka, flying almost across the entire country.

«These were indeed missile tests,» astrophysicist Jonathan McDowell of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics told National Geographic.
«Four ballistic missiles were launched, and at least one of them made a similar appearance. There is no doubt that these observations will be identified as the result of missile tests.»
It is believed that the Topol missile was responsible for the bright orb seen by the people, and that it was a random, unpredictable result, created by the rocket’s exhaust plume aligning with the sun’s rays in space.
