Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates announced he is building a smart city outside Phoenix, Arizona. Bill Gates intends to invest $80 million in the development, which is planned to span nearly 25,000 acres. His investment company, Cascade Investment, will lead the effort.
25,000 acres of data centers, high-speed networks, and self-driving cars.
Once completed, the area will be comparable in square miles and projected population to Tempe. The area will be divided: 470 acres will be dedicated to public schools, and 3,800 acres will be for industrial, office, and retail space, with 80,000 homes residing in the region.
The city will house data centers, high-speed networks, self-driving cars, an automated logistics center, and new manufacturing technologies. This futuristic city is designed with the prospect of «transforming» a raw, blank slate into a purpose-built edge city built around a flexible infrastructure model.
