Microsoft becomes third company to reach $1 trillion valuation

Microsoft is a Seattle-based tech giant. The third company to reach a $1 trillion market capitalization, the software titan passed a major milestone with a jump in its stock valuation following a strong third fiscal quarter, joining Apple and Amazon in achieving the milestone, surpassing current industry rival Google.

At today’s market open, the company managed to achieve a morning price of $130 per share, up from yesterday’s closing price of $125. With this valuation, Microsoft has once again displaced Apple from its «most valuable company» title after briefly holding onto a comprehensive valuation last fall.

Much of the new valuation comes as the tech giant strengthens its position in the cloud services industry, boosting its visibility with its subsidiary Azure, which is nipping at the heels of Amazon AWS.

Based on its third-quarter financial results, Microsoft diligently grew its revenue evenly across three main sectors: Office, LinkedIn, and Dynamics earned approximately $10.2 billion, Azure cloud products, server products, and enterprise services earned $9.7 billion, while Windows, Xbox, and Surface took the majority with $10.7 billion.
