Elon Musk showed the first photo of the SpaceX spacesuit

Musk stated that this was a working version of the suit, not a mockup. «We tested it with double the vacuum pressure,» the SpaceX CEO wrote. He added that it was quite challenging to achieve a balance between aesthetics and functionality.

On August 20, Musk announced that the suit was developed for NASA’s commercial spaceflight program. «We’re testing safety and mobility for landing,» he said.

SpaceX has been working on its own spacesuit since 2015. In a Reddit post in October 2015, Musk said the SpaceX suit «should look like a 21st-century spacesuit and be reliable.» He also showed off a prototype of the suit in concept art for Vogue magazine.
