Google Maps has undergone a redesign

The company announced in a blog post that it has updated driving, navigation, transit, and exploring maps to better highlight the information it believes will be most relevant. This means gas stations when driving, or, more importantly, train and bus stations if you’re riding rails or taking public transit.

Google also announced that maps will receive an updated color scheme with added icons to make it easier to identify places like churches, cafes, museums, and hospitals not only by their symbol but also by their corresponding color for easier identification.

For example, if someone wants to find a restaurant or cafe in a new area, they can open the Google Maps app and look for the nearest orange icon (the color Google uses for shopping and drinking).

Here are examples that explain Google’s color schemes and illustrate the company’s new iconography:

These changes to Maps will also migrate to other apps that include Google Maps data, such as Assistant, Search, Earth, and Android Auto. The changes will also be included in apps, websites and products that other companies have built using the Google Maps API, the company said.
